What are Talking Therapies?

Talking therapies involve talking to someone who is professionally trained to help you deal with your negative emotions. These professionally trained practitioners can assist anyone who is experiencing any degree of distress. 

Talking Therapies offer individuals the opportunity to explore their thoughts and feelings, enabling them to consider the way in which such factors may affect their overall behaviour and emotional state. Describing in detail what is going on in your mind and how that makes you feel can help to highlight patterns and connections that may prove instrumental in bringing about meaningful and permanent change.

Talking Therapies can prove to be highly successful by ultimately establishing the true contributing factors behind such negative feelings and unwanted behavioural responses. What is Life Coaching?

A life coach is a trained professional who aims to help and guide individuals to make, meet and exceed personal and professional goals. They support clients on a journey to rediscover their own strength and abilities: this can include excelling in the workplace, becoming happy and fulfilled at home, exploring and realising their full potential, managing health conditions and achieving life ambitions.

What is Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and how valid is NLP?

'Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) is thought to be one of the most effective and accessible self-help methods to come from modern psychology. Many life coaches use NLP techniques to help 'reprogramme' clients' patterns of thinking and behaving. NLP works on the basis of assessing a client's perception of the world and adapting our behaviour and reactions to enable us to live a happy, desired life.'

The scientific research that surrounds Neuro-Linguistic Programming is still expanding. The list of institutes, agencies, educational providers, official governmental and military bodies around the world that utilise Neuro-linguistic Programming is constantly increasing as more and more influential individuals and organisations acknowledge the value of the approach.

There are many famous and very significant political  NLP devotees; President Bill Clinton, President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Tony Blair are just a few. This is not to suggest that countless other such world leaders are not employing NLP practices without publically disclosing so.

High profile celebrities such as Oprah Winfrey, Sophie Dahl, Lily Allen, Gerri Halliwell, Jimmy Carr and Russell Brand also practise NLP techniques. Robbie Williams is known for employing NLP strategies in preparation for his performances in order to quell his nerves. The chef Heston Blumenthal and former tennis champion Andre Agassi also espouse the techniques, while illusionist Derren Brown actually teaches NLP.

Closer to home, Michelle Hatfield, HR director of the George Best City Airport, credits NLP with changing her life.

How many coaching sessions will I need and how frequently?

It is highly beneficial to establish a set routine by which the coaching sessions are delivered. Establishing and adhering to such schedules is proven to contribute towards the success rate of any such coaching. Empowerment and Personal Performance Coaching is by no means an exception to this rule.

Weekly sessions are recommended in order to achieve timely and longlasting results. Nevertheless, some clients prefer fortnightly sessions as they may require a period of acceptance and contemplation to take place before transitioning from one phase of their training to another. 

If your current work schedule prevents you from attending regularly scheduled intervals I am willing to operate a flexible approach to accommodate your requirements.



How long does a coaching session last for?

Coaching sessions are typically delivered according to the specific requirements of the individual. That said, coaching sessions are typically planned over a 60-minute duration. However, a minimum of 30 mins and a maximum of 2 hrs will be considered. No one person responds to the coaching sessions in the same manner or indeed at the same rate of development. Every training session is tailored to the individual and their individual needs. Below is a non-exhaustive list of some of the key factors that directly influence the duration of any given Empowerment and Personal Performance coaching session:


The duration by which the need for change is desired.

The degree/intensity of change required.

The current level of self-confidence.

The individual's current rate of development. Ultimately how quickly, meaningful and sustainable change can be attained.

I actively encourage my clients to gauge the rate of their development; they are, after all, the best person to gauge, not only the degree of successful adaptations that may already have taken place but also at what rate the said developments may continue to progress. My clients are soon able to gauge what works best for them. The effective and constructive communication shared between the coach and the client will ultimately determine how sessions will progress in terms of intensity, duration and frequency. 

I have observed clients who have achieved life-changing adaptations by attending only one two hour session. This may well be an exception as opposed to a typical response to coaching, however, it goes some way in demonstrating just how effective the coaching can be.

Some clients, on the other hand, prefer to have more sessions of increased intensity delivered more frequently. Two 60 mins sessions delivered over a seven day period is a particularly successful approach.

Regardless of any initial thoughts, assumptions and or expectations, the key to your successful coaching is to remain flexible, open-minded and to enjoy great client-coach communication. 


I do not oblige my clients to book a specific number of sessions in advance, on the grounds that sessions are interdependent. Each coaching session will deliver a unique focus in isolation of any previous session(s).

This policy also applies if I believe you were about to harm another individual or the welfare of a child was in question.

What happens If I feel that the sessions are not for me? Do I have the option of cancelling any pre-booked sessions?


Each and every one of us has walked an entirely different journey through life, a journey that is as unique as the person we are.


This immense accumulation of experiences has effectively created the complex network of neurological pathways that we rely on for all our thought processes. With this in mind, we need to be mindful that what works well for one individual may not resonate with another, this is the nature of mankind and is what ultimately makes us so wonderfully different.
